How did Baby / Baby Reflex 4 Toddlers begin?
It began when Jenny Lee, (MCSP, MAR) a chartered Physiotherapist, Reflexologist, & Teacher, specialised in working with mothers & young children. Over her 15 years in practice she carried out pilot studies involving children & GPs, designed to examine specifically the effects of Reflexology on childhood asthma. The results were so encouraging that Jenny developed the concept of ‘Baby Reflex’. Subsequently Baby Reflex 4 Toddlers has been developed by Penny Odhams (MAR).
Where can I learn Baby/Toddler Reflex?
The workshops are held at Twinkle Toes Soft Play Baby Cafe, Sussex Street, Norwich, NR3 3DG on Fridays at 1pm. I can also teach one to one sessions at my treatment room or at your own home. You can arrange small group sessions of 4-6 people at your house too.
What happens during a Baby/Toddler Reflex workshop?
As it is hard to be predictable with babies, each session will last between 60-90 minutes to allow for more flexibility and a stress free environment for all. Workshops are accessible, fun…and relaxing!
During each workshop, there will be:
- A warm up – some simple relaxation movements and breathing.
- Treatment tutorial – practice on dummy squashy baby feet and your own feet so you can see how it feels.
- Practical – we will go through the 5 minute routine on your baby / toddler if he/she is willing of course.
- Time for questions, concerns and clarifications.
Baby Reflex is taught on the feet and the sessions are themed:
- Week 1: Feeding / Digesting
- Week 2: Sleeping / Comforting
- Week 3: Well Being
Toddler Reflex is taught on the hands and the routine is themed with nursery rhymes for simplicity and fun.
How much does it cost?
Baby Reflex one to one 3 sessions: £45
Toddler Reflex one to one 2 sessions: £30
Baby Reflex small group 3 sessions: £30 per person
Toddler Reflex small group 2 sessions: £20 per person
The host is only charged half price.
The knowledge shared during the Baby Reflex workshops is a great investment for your family, as those techniques can extend beyond early childhood into childhood and adulthood, so everyone in your family can benefit!
How old does my child have to be?
The Baby Reflex workshop is designed for babies between 4 weeks and 18 months old. It is possible for expecting mums to attend the workshops, however always remember to wait until your baby is 4 weeks old before treating him/her with Reflexology. This is in order to let his/her new little body and systems settle down. The Toddler Reflex is designed from once your little one is up on their feet to approximately 3 years old.
If I attend the course, can I then teach other parents how to use Baby Reflex?
Unfortunately, it is not advised for you to teach other parents, even if you have attended and completed a Baby reflex workshop, as you are not qualified or insured. You may however use and practice what you’ve learnt to help any of your own family members.
What is the difference between Baby Reflex and Baby Massage?
The main difference is that Baby Reflex is portable, there is no requirement to remove clothes and in fact can be done anywhere.
Are there any reasons why I may not be able to treat my baby?
Yes, there are some contraindications. For example if baby has got a fever or a rash, breathless, vomits, cries in pain when touched, or if he/she is following a medical treatment from the GP. But don’t worry you can always practice on our cute squashy dolly feet when attending the workshop, and on baby at home when he/she is feeling better!
Do children really like baby/toddler reflex?
Mostly they relax, fall asleep and love it!
